Welcome to the web site of the Ontario Early Years Centre - London West!

Available online:

The Ontario government created Ontario Early Years Centres to be a place where parents and caregivers can get answers to questions, information about programs and services that are available for young children, and an opportunity to talk to early years professionals, as well as other parents and caregivers in the community. You and your child can visit the London West Ontario Early Years Centre for a range of free services including:

  • Early learning and literacy programs for parents and their children;
  • Parenting programs that support parents and caregivers of young children in all aspects of early child development;
  • Information and training for new parents about pregnancy and parenting.
The London West Ontario Early Years Centre also brings together in one location information about children's services and programs in the community. If you have questions about your child's development, or want to know how to get information or services for your child aged 0-6 in London West, please visit your Ontario Early Years Centre at 1019 Viscount Rd, London, located at Jean Vanier Elementary School. Call us at (519)-473-2825, or e-mail us at
oeyclondonwest@lcc.on.ca.

Literacy
Books are available in all programs for parents and caregivers to share with their children.  They can learn new rhymes and fingerplays as well as repeating old favourites during group time.  A variety of early learning activities provide children with opportunities to learn new skills and get ready for school.

Two Early Literacy Specialists act as consultants in our Early Years programs and for other community agencies such as child care centres, libraries, school boards and other literacy initiatives.  The Early Literacy Specialists provide free workshops for parents and professionals on a variety of topics.

The Early Literacy Specialists can be reached at:
(519) 433-8996 ext. 231

Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with the Ontario Early Years Centres' programs where parents/caregivers, together with their children (birth to 6 years), can explore a variety of early learning activities.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with the children and parents while assisting staff with a wide variety of duties.  Duties may include:
  • Playgroup Assistant (supporting staff during programs and playgroups)
  • child minding (assisting staff care for children during parent & caregiver groups)
Other opportunities:
  • resource lending
  • maintenance of toys, equipment and Centre
  • office/administration (photocopying, prepping & sorting resources)
  • share your talents with us!
Volunteers who speak languages other than English are welcome!
