Making sure your kids eat right

Making sure your child is eating properly is really important. Good nutrition is critical to a child's:

  • physical and emotional growth
  • health
  • ability to learn

Students do better and behave better in school when they eat properly.

Student Nutrition Program

The Ministry of Children and Youth Services wants children and youth to grow strong and healthy and do well in school.

That's why the ministry funds student community nutrition programs for elementary and high school students across Ontario.

These programs:

  • are developed by schools and community agencies
  • meet local needs
  • are run mostly by volunteers, such as parents, teachers and school staff
  • follow nutrition guidelines that the ministry has developed along with:
    • Ministry of Education
    • Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
    • Dieticians of Canada
    • Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health
    • Ontario's Public Health Units, and
    • Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph.

To find out about community nutrition programs in your area, contact your local Ministry of Children and Youth Services Regional Office.
