Official Documents Services

Welcome

Official Documents Services (ODS) verifies the authenticity of affidavits and records notarized or commissioned by Ontario government officials and notaries public or commissioners. For example, when proof of residency is requested by consulates, embassies, or foreign officials, ODS can issue certificates of authentication. It also prepares certificates bearing the Great Seal of Ontario and the Privy Seal of the Lieutenant-Governor, for government appointments.

Certificates of Appointment
Are you becoming a notary public or commissioner for taking affidavits? ODS issues certificates of appointment, once your appointment is approved by the Ministry of the Attorney General. Find out more about Certificates of Appointment.

Certificates of Authentication
Will you be travelling or doing business abroad? You might be required to provide proof of authentication for official documents issued in Ontario. ODS formally authenticates documents which have been legalized by notaries, commissioners, and the Office of the Registrar General. Find out more about Certificates of Authentication.

Other Contacts
Are you looking for government offices that issue other certificates (such as birth and marriage), congratulatory scrolls and messages, and Crown patents? Foreign embassies and consular representatives in Canada? Other provinces and territories' authentication services? Find out more from Other Contacts.
