Government Encourages Ontarians To Support Our Troops

Minister Takhar unveils the Yellow Ribbon – Support our Troops graphic licence plateNew Ontario licence plates featuring the Yellow Ribbon – Support our Troops logo are being introduced to honour the Canadian Forces. Starting Feb. 1, 2010, these regular, personalized and sample licence plates can be ordered through select ServiceOntario locations and driver and vehicle licence issuing offices across the province. “This is a fitting tribute to the heroism of those who served in our armed forces and those who continue to risk their lives as part of Canada’s military mission,” said Harinder S. Takhar, Minister of Government Services.

Stronger Accountability and Oversight of Expenses

The province has taken several steps to further enhance accountability and ensure that all public servants understand and follow the rules regarding expenses.  The Public Sector Expenses Review Act, 2009, will further strengthen accountability, transparency and oversight of expense claims.

Archives of Ontario’s inaugural exhibit

On September 15, The Honourable Harinder S. Takhar, Minister of Government Services, launched the Archives of Ontario’s inaugural exhibit in its facilities, which opened at York University this spring.  The exhibit, Ontario – On the Map, demonstrates how the purpose of early provincial maps changed from tools for settlement and exploitation of resources to tools for understanding the evolving cultural and physical landscape of Ontario.
